A CHURCH DEDICATED TO MAKING DICSIPLES BY GLORIFYING & WORSHIPING THE TRIUNE GOD IN SPIRIT & IN TRUTH.
Making Disciples.
Our goal is to seriously engage in helping people become mature Christians and evangelizing the lost. We don’t want to just make converts; we want to make disciples. A disciple is a learner and follower of Jesus (Matthew 28:18- 20). The gospel effects all of life and transforms the entire person as we grow in sanctification and the knowledge of our Savior (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Peter 3:18). We walk with our people and live life together with them. It is important that we be there for each other through the good times and the bad (1 Thessalonians 2:8) with the Scriptures as our guide - being made alive in our hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit (Psalm 119:105; 2 Corinthians 4:6). Christianity is not a solo endeavor. The body of Christ is made up of many members and we need one another (Ephesians 4:16). We want to see everyone grow in the Lord as well as the advancement of His Kingdom for His glory and our good! Being part of a healthy church is essential to the Christian life and each one has something to offer to another member. We are called to hold each other accountable and to encourage one another.
To help grow in this, Jesus has given pastors and teachers to the church that have fully given their lives over to the study of His word and prayer to build up the church (Eph 4:11-12). We encourage family worship/Bible time and love to help by making free resources available to the congregation. We practice expository preaching/teaching (usually though books or sections of the Bible, but sometimes through biblical themes), to take a close look at the Scriptures and draw out its deep and precious truths. We seek for the preaching and teaching to be in-depth, but also for it to be plain and understandable with an eye towards practical application.
All the Nations.
Biblical Christianity is salt and light (Matt 5:13-14). When it is thriving, it should have a positive effect on the culture around it because it speaks to all people and all areas of life. God’s word is truth, and it is true at all times and in all places. Because of this ultimate trueness of the Bible – Christianity transcends culture, nationality, and ethnicity. The phrase “all the nations” in Matthew 28:19, can also be understood as every ethnic group. God is not the God of one particular people group. We intend to try to reach as many as possible. God has an elect people with some from every tribe, tongue, and nation (Revelation 7:9). Because of this, we preach the gospel promiscuously and indiscriminately to all. In doing so, we can have full confidence that His sheep will hear His voice (John 10:17).
With this full confidence in God and the power of the gospel, we will intentionally not put stumbling blocks in anyone’s way. Christ is Lord of all, and His law speaks to every situation, political or not. God defines morality, not social norms or culture. With the Lordship of Christ in mind, we don’t have any kind of flags, or a mixture of secular, ethnic, or national holidays combined with the worship of God during the service at The Reformation Church (1Cor 10:32-33). Of course, every member is free to observe whatever special days for whatever reason they would like according to their Christian consciences. We will simply avoid the mixture of that in the church gathering for worship. It would be counterproductive to our mission and values.
Glorifying and Worshiping.
Our goal and starting place in the gathering of the local church is purity of worship. God is the Creator of all, and we are His creation. As His creatures, we are made to glorify and worship Him. Even inanimate objects of God’s creation display His greatness and eternal attributes (Ps 19; Rom 1:20). We gather each Lord’s Day for special worship as a church and remember those who are shut in and seek to visit them on this day as well if at all possible.
We believe that God is most glorified in the church gathering when we worship Him according to what pleases Him as we find it in Scripture. For the Christian, all of life is an act of worship to our God (Rom 12:1; 1 Cor 10:31; Colossians 3:17), and we are particularly built up and equip for that on the Lord’s Day. Singing and praising the Lord are acts of worship. But it is important to remember – listening to biblical teaching and preaching, giving, joining together at the Lord’s table, and fellowship with one another are also acts of worship. As we worship the Lord in this way, He ministers to us as well.
We sing the Word in praise. We hear the Word in the Scripture readings. We see, touch, and taste the Word at the Lord’s table. Then we are commissioned to go out into the world to be doers of His Word! When we glorify and worship the Lord this way in the church first, we are equipped to glorify Him in public and in our daily lives.
The Triune God in Spirit and in Truth.
God is One, and God is Trinity (Deuteronomy 6:4; James 2:19; Isaiah 42:1; Matt 28:19). We want to make sure our people understand that, and one person of the Trinity is not neglected in worship. We worship the Father. We worship the Son. We worship the Holy Spirit. But we worship one God. He is completely unique and not comparable to anything, yet He makes Himself known to us (Jeremiah 10:6; 1Samuel 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:6). At times, the Triune nature of our God can seem to be diminished in worship services. We intend to correct that in the worship service and in teaching. In John 4, Jesus explains to the woman at the well that God seeks true worshipers to worship Him in spirit and in truth. Much could be said about that, but in short, we are to worship Him correctly and with a proper attitude. Our most effective way of communicating this truth is by modeling it to the congregation every week.
